Review: Lush - American Cream Conditioner

They say ~ lush conditioners are a wholly different kind of conditioner. We opt for a more natural approach to haircare with natural ingredients and safe synthetics to condition the hair, rather than coating it with silicones. The scent of honey, vanilla, strawberries and oranges is so sexy and sweet that dates can't stay away. If your hair gets a bit messed up, American Cream makes it easy to brush through and smooth out again.

I say ~ I really like this conditioner, it smells lovely! It makes your hair smell so nice as well. While you wont end up with hair feeling all coated in silicones it does make your hair soft and for me using a conditioner and shampoo without silicones in it makes my hair last longer inbetween washes. I can go every other day if I dont use products with 'cones in. This is a little thicker than the Veganese conditioner, little less thicker than a more typical conditioner. The smell is a mix of honey and vanilla I think rather than strawberries and oranges. I usually end up buying a massive bottle and it lasts for ages! I swap about between this one and veganese so my hair doesnt become too used to either product.

Tutorial: Matte Dotty Nails

This is a tutorial requested by MakeUpJelena

Basically you will need the following:
- Nail Polish
- Matt Nail Polish
- Dotting Tool (or a pencil / cocktail stick)

Firstly paint your nails, I used ELF - Navy Polish

Once that is dried paint over that with the Matt Top Coat, I used ELF's

Again wait for that to dry, take your polish and dot it on to a surface. I used a old take out tub lid. Dip your dotting tool in to the polish and then simply dot on to the nail in whatever fashion you want

Once that is dry and you have cleaned up and little mishaps (love that word lol) you are done!

Very simple. Should I do more tutorials? What do you want to see?

Nail of the Day - Black / Silver French

Another subtle polish. This time its a french manicure with black and dark silver. Shame it went a little lumpy, that was my fault for going to bed without waiting for it to dry!

Review: ELF - Blush Polish

Well I think that it is officially winter 2010 here in the North East!

The pictures above are with two coats of the polish in blush. It goes on nicely and is rather shiney. I wouldnt wear this shade on its own, but for a base for nail art I think it might be quite nice. My one criticism would be the name, it doesnt look like a 'blush' shade to me!

Swatch: OPI - Obscurity

This polish is a wonderfully matte black. The brush in this mini was a pain to work with.

Mini polish was part of the Halloween 2010 Go Goth! OPI collection.

Nail of the Day - Black Polka Dots

I love love love this! So subtle and black! Always am on the hunt for something black with black spots, quite a difficult task actually!

Review: Barry M - Nail Effects

Well this nail polish certainly was difficult to get my hands on! Still after about three weeks I managed to find it in a superdrug. It makes the trend of nail art a little more accessible and easy.

The problem being you have to use a really vivid / light colour under the cracked black otherwise it doesnt show up too well, as in the following picture.

But if you get a lighter colour it really does show up well. You could go for all sorts of combinations making it look almost animal print.

The pictures above both have a clear coat on top to help avoid snagging which does happen because the surface once the crackle is applied isnt smooth. Also the polish is more of a matte finish as seen below.

Over all for £3.95 I quite like this polish, I wouldnt buy it in any other colours although as of yet there isnt any others out. I like how if you apply it with different brush strokes you get a different effect. The main issue I had with this was I didnt have many light colours to try out underneth!

Review: ELF - Matte Top Coat Polish

I have been meaning to do this review for ages actually.

I quite like having a mattifying top coat as it means that you don't have to go out and buy all sorts of new polishes just for a finish. That is useful and for £1.50 it is a bargain. The top coat works really quickly at mattifying and dries fast too. I would say that the matte finish is at its best for around 24 hours and then begins to loose its finish. It doesn't go completely though, more somewhere in between shiny and matte.

I think its good enough as a matte top coat for the price and cheap enough to experiment with and help you decide if you like the effect of a matte polish or not.
As for me, I still haven't made my mind up about the whole nail being matte but using it for a bit of nail art is nice.

Following my previous nail of the day this is a bit of an add on to that. Still not 100% on what my thoughts are on the Barry M Nail Effects.

Review: Lush - The Comforter

They say ~ This fruity bubble bar gives the feeling of being hugged by a jolly blackcurrant. When life is getting you down, crumble The Comforter under hot, running water for purple water and creamy bubbles. It was created to bring a real sense of comfort to people, just like a real comforter (or scarf) would.

I say ~ Well other than noticing I like my baths exceptionally hot it is obvious how pink it colours the water and how much bubbles are produced. And this was only using 1/2 of a bar. Usually I use 1/3 but for some reason this bar was smaller than a normal one. The scent is a lovely blackcurrenty one something I would say though is the water doesnt turn purple as you can see from my pictures. The scent lingers on your skin for a couple of hours and it isnt drying.

Swatch: MUA - Shade 9 - Smurf Blue

This colour is exceptionally blue!
I used three coats of it and it is very vibrant, and it does look very much like the colour of the smurfs!

Eye of the Day - Blue

Well I have to say that this EOTD is so much better than my last attempt!
This is a nice smokey blue look which is a little darker in life. I created this look using Obnoxious, Abyss and Blade from the Sleek Bad Girl Palette. The eyeliner is ELF's waterproof eyeliner pen in midnight.

Review: ELF - Party Purple Polish

This is very suble, looks dark purple with a splattering of small silver glitter particles.
I really like it, very me. But I think its nice to add a little glitter in to your nails without it being too over bearing. Two coats of polish was all that was needed and removing it wasnt really a problem the way in which some glitter polishes can be.

Review: Lush - Veganese Conditioner

They say ~ The majority of Lush products are vegan, but making a vegan conditioner without lanolin took us a few years. Absolutely refusing to be beaten, Helen Ambrosen finally found a formula that reached her high standards. Agar is really softening and conditions the hair follicles. Using agar seaweed gel as a hair softener, she created a perfect vegan conditioner with lavender and lemons for shine. Vegans and everyone with fine hair should choose this one and stick with it.

I say ~ I dont have fine hair, nor am I vegan. But, I like this conditioner all the same. I swap it about with Lush's American Cream conditioner so my hair doesnt come acustomed to either. Its worth noting that this doesnt have any silicones in it and so takes a while to get used to. This conditioner is so softening and is good for tangled hair I find. The scent is completly of lemons but its not a sour smell, more fresh. Doesnt really leave you smelling of lemons either! It is quite good for waking you up as well! This is a thin sort of conditioner in consistancy and it looks a little yellow / grey toned, I imagine that is down to the lemons though!

Wednesday Wants

Looking at Lush's christmas selection...

I adore this, usually stock up on a lot of it!

Can't wait to try this one out!

I am a complete lushie has to be said, so I tried to restrain myself and only pick out things from their 2010 christmas range.

Nail of the Day - Barry M and Models Own

So I attempted using the Barry M nail effects polish. I do think while this was good, it was exceptionally subtle and I think that it does need a lighter colour under it.

Review: Aussie - 3 Minute Miracle Colour Deep Treatment

They say ~ The unique formula, blended with ripe Australian wild peach extract, helps replenish and revitalise your coloured hair in just 3 minutes!

This is a very intensive conditioner and as such I recommend you use it once or twice a week. It is very thick and smells of peaches, this lasts on your hair as well. I wouldn't say it was a miracle as they market it but it is a good intensive treatment which I would recommend if you don't have fine hair as this might weigh it down a bit.
