Primark Charms

I have had a lot of people wondering about Primark charms on the blog.
These are a couple which I have, cherries, a skull and the initial 'M'.

Primark sell both bracelets and necklaces for their charms. The photo above is of the necklace although I am wearing it as a bracelet. All the charms and the necklace / bracelets are currently £1. So far none of mine have tarnished but for £1 I imagine they will.

I have been using the charms on things other than with the chains they have, they hook on to anything really as the clasp is one of those like a normal necklace, you can see it in the photo attached to the 'M'. Often have a charm clipped on to a black elastic choker type thing, or hooked on to a zip on a bag.

Review: The Body Shop - Satsuma Body Butter

I actually forgot I had this body butter! Its the 50ml pot so quite cute. The Body Shop is quite well known for its various body butters, they have different levels of intensity for normal, normal to dry and dry skin types. This particular one is for normal skin.

Moisturising - This is a very thick moisturiser, as the name suggests it is more like a butter than a cream. It is very moisturising and I would even go as far as saying it is more suited for normal to dry skin. I wouldn't use this on my face as it leaves a bit of a residue, for the body however this is great. If you have dry elbows and knees you may need to opt for a more intensive body butter.

Scent - Has a slight bitterness to it which you would get if you were to zest an orange peel. It's not horrible, overwhelming or overly bitter though.

Packaging - While the pot with screw off lid serves its purpose I do have a couple of issues with this, when you have slippy hands its difficult to close the jar. Also I prefer a tube with a flip lid, this means I can easily squeeze out the amount I need and it is more hygienic. I really don't like sticking my fingers in products and getting too much product on my hands and under my nails.

Repurchase? I would consider repurchasing, the scent is nice, the product is nice and if you can get it with 50% off then the price is more than nice! However The Body Shop have a wide range of body butters and I am keen to try out most of them.

The Body Shop have this guide to help you pick which body butter you may like to use.

52 Week Challenge: Week 21

This challenge really seems to have a lot of different looks, is anyone else doing it?
This week's theme was 'green'

Base Polish: W7 - Fluorescent Green
Shatter: Barry M - Black Nail Effects

As you can tell I wasn't a fan of the brightness of the green on its own and I think it looks so much better with a crackle. Especially the black.

Stamping Sunday: Three Colours

I wasn't too sure if we were to stamp with three colours or just use three on the nails. They didn't come out quite how I envisioned, Kath Kidson-esq, but to the eye they are a lot less patchy and the roses shimmer.

Base Polish: Barry M - Berry Ice Cream
Stamping Polishes: Barry M - Racing Green, Miss Sporty - Cherry
Stamping Plate: M65

How to: Lush

While I do have a slight addiction to the shop Lush, I do understand that a lot of people are daunted by the thought of stepping foot in store. I was once daunted by that very thought. As well as the almost overpowering scents wafting out the doors.

Basically people tend to have two issues with the store, one being that the scent is completely and utterly over whelming and for these people I suggest maybe ordering online because the shop really is full of all different scents which can be overpowering and over whelming but also may set peoples allergies off if you are sensitive to certain things.

The other issue which i have heard people having is with the store staff. They have a tendency to jump out at you and start squealing at you about Lush products. I think this is more to do with the fact that they have a real passion for their job and the products which they sell. Which in this day in age is a rare thing!

If you would like to browse the store, usually you just need to say I'm just browsing thank you and they will leave you to it. Depending on the size of the store you might be approached by another Lush mad sales assistant but just say the same thing again and they should leave you to it. I have never came across a sales assistant which hasn't.

If you are not sure about which product would suit your skin type then 9 times out of 10 if you ask the sales assistance then they will know the answer to your questions. If not then they will tend to ask another sales assistant. If you aren't comfortable with this then ask on the online forum, there are many Lush addicts out there who will be more than willing to help. Or you can always comment here and ask me, I will try to help and won't jump out on you!

Review: Max Factor - Fantasy Fire

This is Max Factor's Fantasy Fire, allegedly a dupe for Clarins 230 more commonly known as 'Unicorn Pee'

Swatch-Max-Factor-Fantasy-Fire-Clarins-230-Unicorn-Pee

Clarins no longer sells the 230 but in the bottle (12ml) it looks like a duochrome which shifts from a reddy copper to a blue / green / purple. The Max Factor (4.5ml) also look like that in the bottle, quite multi faceted

With Fantasy Fire the effect on the nail is less so, which is a little disappointing. In photos I have seen of the Clarins this is also the case. I think that the two are really compatible and seeing as 230 is discontinued Fantasy Fire is a perfect dupe.

Lasting Power: Average
Opacity: Very sheer, 4 coats. A layering polish, handy for prolonging the life of the little 4.5ml bottle. Also playing about with the different tones and shades it goes with various bases
Brush Type: Little bottle comes with a little brush I am afraid

Fantasy Fire is a very much hyped up, the polish itself is quite sheer and ideal for layering. In the bottle it looks purple flitting to a red, green, and blue tone it almost gives the impression of being oil on water. However on the nail it is less impressive as it doesn't translate across well. Depending on what polish you layer this with would alter the colour shift in the overall duochrome look polish.

£3.99 - 4.5ml

Hair: Interlaced Braid

Hands up I didn't come up with this myself, all credit goes to Loepsie and TorrinPaige on YouTube

My hair is about as thick as in the second video, but not as long. I think it looks quite medieval in the first with the different thickness's of hair. Either way both are beautiful. I have managed to do this on myself, however in the following photo my sister actually did it for me.

What do you think? I think the colour contrast looks quite different.
Shame my roots needed doing!

Review: Soap and Glory - Heel Genius

Soap and Glory claim
No mean feet. Feet should be friendly. Soft. Smooth. Even lovely to look at. Massage a generous layer of Soap & Glory Heel Genius™ 125ml onto clean feet every night (or at least as often as you remember). Slip cotton socks overtop and let it soak in while you sleep.

What do I think?
I wouldn't describe my feet as particularly over worked, however my feet need a little tlc when they feel a bit  'clicky' on tights. Foot moisturisers and bed socks, not a sexy look really! Applied a thick layer to my heels stuck on some fluffy socks and in the morning my feet felt smooth and moisturised.
I did actually get my other half to try this and he has workers man feet and while it didn't work with just the one application it did after three nights. Which is quite a feat ... sorry!

Scent - Fresh, slight citrus smell
Colour - Light green verging on teal, once rubbed in it does go white
Packaging - Retro, flip cap which means less mess and more convenience
Consistency - Thick, similar to a conditioner
Lives up to claims - Feet should be friendly, if not friendly at least the best a foot can look! Yes I think it does meet claims made but the claims aren't exactly adventurous!
Worth the price tag? - I don't think its too over priced, if you have badly dried feet and like Soap and Glory then it would be something worth trying. As my feet weren't horrendous to begin with it isn't something I would repurchase but I will be using the rest of the tube.

[after a few months I did notice that lotion seperated in the tube, so do try and shake it up before using]

£5.11 - 125ml

Stamping Plate: Bundle Monster 209

This stamping plate is from Bundle Monster, part of the second 25 piece set

You can see all of the nail designs I have done using this plate here

Admittedly these stamps haven't came out very pigmented, however this really was my fault for using a too light a stamping shade. All of the designs stamp well on to the nail, I think I like the fishnet design the most but the witches hat is also quite cute.

Which do you like?

Lasting Power: Standard 3-4 days

NOTD: Nyan Cat

Hands Up!
This one was completely motivated by my sister. I did think I would do it at some point but she made me do it. When I came to doing it I unfortunately seem to have lost my little teeny paint brush, pinged off somewhere. Ended up having to use a small dotting tool to do everything!

This isn't as good as I would have hoped but it was done with my non-dominant hand. Disappointed with the cat as well, I really could have done with my paint brush!
Base Polish: Models Own - True Blue

Don't know about Nyan Cat?

Storage: Blushers

So it would appear that the majority of the blushers I own are from ELF. I have included my contour and highlight as well as I only have one of each and they are all stored together.
Most of them are very light as I'm quite pale. In the case of Rose, Pink Lemonade and Toffee I would use a much lighter touch when applying them as blusher rather than swatching! It has occurred to me while doing this post that I haven't actually reviewed many of these.

Mineral Blusher - Joy
Very light pink, doubt it would work with medium to dark toned skin. Matte finish.

Light peach coloured, for me it is more of a bronzer. Would work with darker tones than myself. Build-able with a matte finish.

Mineral Blusher - Rose
Very pigmented dark pink, would look amazing on deep skin tones. Difficult to work with on pale skin tones, not very sheer, again a matte finish.

Studio Blusher - Mellow Mauve
This is a deep pink which is build-able, it also has a slight golden shimmer to it. Doesn't have great pigmentation.

Essential Blusher - Shy
Pigmented, very light pink, matte finish

Build-able, slight shimmer, hot pink.

All Over Color Stick - Pink Lemonade
Very pigmented, deep pink, blend-able with a shimmer to it

Quite pigmented, matte

Very shimmery, think it would be very over the top to use as a bronzer.

Do you have any of these?

Wednesday Wants: Lush Valentines Day

As usual I have a couple of Lush items I am lusting over from this years Valentines Day collection...

Lots of Love

I think this would be a really nice gift to receive for Valentines. Typically I don't like gift sets as I like to choose which items I want, and there is often something I don't like in sets. The hat box is cute and would so be reused for storage.

Magic Mushroom

It's back! After getting this bubble bar for the past couple of years and liking it I was happy to see it back again. So cute and it makes lots of bubbles, lots of red dyed water too. First time I tried this was 2010 [review] and every time I have retried it I have grown a certain fondness of it.

A Million Kisses Lip Tint

As far as I know this is new this year, similar to Snow Fairy Lip Tint although that is more of a pink colour. A Million Kisses looks very comparable to It Started With A Kiss lip tint, I have swatched this and while it is similar this one is less vivid and more wearable than the bright red which it looks like in the photo above.

Leap Frog / Frog Prince

This year this ballistic is called Leap Frog, I imagine that is because this February happens to be a leap year. 2011 this was Frog Prince, just make sure when you are enjoying your bath your other half doesn't wander in and notice you are sharing your bath water with a prince! The scent is jasmine mainly and the water goes green with a random red splash because of the puckering up frog's lips.
