Review: Seche Vité

This is one of those alleged 'holy grail' items. I've had this for around six months I think now is the time to get around to reviewing it.

They say ~ "Seche Vite™ dry fast top coat is widely acknowledged as the world's finest top coat. Specially formulated to penetrate through nail lacquer to the base coat forming a single solid coating over the nail plate for a much more durable finish. Guaranteed not to yellow while leaving nails silky, stronger and resistant to chipping and peeling"

~ Dries your polish really quickly
~ Doesn't smudge nail art designs
~ Leaves a glassy finish
~ Makes a manicure last for about 5 days

~ Gets too thick to use after using 1/2 of the bottle
~ Have to buy Seche Restore to make it usable again
~ Difficult to use entire bottle due to shape of bottle and polish consistency
~ Contains Toluene which is a known toxic, causes birth defects in pregnant women
~ Shrinks polish
~ Has quite a strong odour

I do like this topcoat at first, once you have used 1/4 of the bottle its a pain to use. All of their claims are true but they don't acknowledge the negatives. I'm not comfortable with the toluene content because I do my nails almost every day. The price is medium range which I think would be worth it if there wasn't so many draw backs.

I say try it once, if you are vaguely interested (unless TTC or pregnant) to make your own mind up. Really though there are cheaper, more healthy options which work 95% as well as Seche Vité.

  1. You are so right, it gets thick and gloopy. I bought Seche Restore and it seemed to help. I can't seem to find anything better :( Great review.

    1. I prefer Sally Hansen Insta Dri Top Coat, but I have heard great things about the HK Girl top coat :)
