Review: Nail Art - Glitter Chips

On various nail art accessories websites I have seen  Glitter Chips, these particular ones are from BuyInCoins.com and in the pack in which you get 12 different pots of coloured chips.

The range of colours is quite varied. Chips are like random chips of coloured tinfoil in texture.

Whilst when I first got these chips I was quite unsure what to do with them. But more recently textured nails seem to be gaining momentum. There are some polish duo's coming out by Revlon in August 2012 which are basically glitter chips suspended in a clear polish.

If you are still left wondering what you could do with these then why not pop over to BeautyGeek and see what creative ideas are over there.

52 Week Challenge: Galaxy Nails

This was a challenge I was looking forward to doing, I'd been meaning to try doing Galaxy nails for quite some time. I think this worked although not sure if the star shaped glitter was overkill or not.

Review: Rimmel - Wake Me Up Foundation 103

Having owned this for a while now I think it is time to do a review. Many people in the blogosphere have been raving about this, I am adding to this as you can never have too many reviews on something.

What is it Rimmel say?
Introducing Rimmel Wake Me Up, our first makeup that instantly reawakens skin with a healthy, radiant glow and minimizes premature skin ageing. A light, smooth texture for natural, 100% poreless coverage instantly eliminates signs of tiredness and lifts skin from fatigue. Radiance pearls illuminate for a healthy, radiant glow. Flawless natural finish. Peptides increase elasticity so skin recovers and bounces back more quickly. SPF 15 protects.

What about me?
I don't necessarily think it instantly reawakens skin, as with any foundation it does even out skin tone and makes you feel more confident. A radiant glow, well there is a shimmer factor. Perhaps that is the radiance pearls? For me I think it is very finely milled glitter so when wearing you don't look like a glitter ball.

This foundation takes an average time to dry, great for blending out and getting a light to medium coverage. I cannot comment on the claims of peptides, elasticity and premature ageing. The SPF of 15 isn't too bad but just be careful when being photographed with a flash.

The packaging - has a pump top which I like. Bottle is made from glass though which has its own pros and cons.

Under natural lighting this foundation is nice and natural, under artificial lighting it can look slightly shimmery. So I recommend swatching this before buying to see if the shade you want is too shimmery on your skin.
+ Light, easy to blend coverage
+ Nice for daytime thanks to its light coverage and SPF
+ Staying power isn't bad, lasts on my combo skin for 8 hours once set with a powder without touching up

- I have to use a primer to stop it sinking in to larger pores
- The shimmer can be slightly noticeable even after using a powder to set it
- Poor shade range, currently only six relatively light shades

I would recommend this, but do swatch it. I wouldn't repurchase this as I have other foundations I prefer more, but I will be using this up.

Review: ColourB4 Extra pt.2

This is a second review of Colour B4 Extra, you can see my first adventures here if you like.

This time I used two boxes on my hair because it is quite long and thick. I noticed the smell more this time, maybe because I was using more product? It wasn't horrific as in rotten eggs but there was a bit of an eggy smell. Still I would prefer this smell to peroxide, that is awful and really gets to my lungs.

After one application         After Second application
From the second application I think the colour has lifted a lot, especially if you compare it to the before any colour B4. The lengths of my hair has gone a dark brown / mahogany colour, this might have shown up better if I had straightened my hair. I do think though that my hair, particularly the lengths have been stained by the sheer amout of times I have dyed it black. Still it has done a good job, if your hair is shorter then it would work so much better as you can see from the effect it has had on the top of my head where is hasn't been dyed 20+ times.

While I really can't stand my natural colour what I like about the colour B4 is how it has evened out the root area. As you can see in the before and even after the one application my natural root colour is coming through lighter than the dye which was giving my hair a thinning look. Now my hair looks as if there is a lot more of it at the root. It isn't as light now as the photo suggests but that's the flash washing it out slightly.

My hair looks healthy, shiny and doesn't feel dried out after using it this time. After using it the first time I did have to loose an inch off the ends but I was overdue for a trim to begin with so I think if your hair is okay to begin with it should be after using this.

Thank you ColourB4! Now I can't wait to dye my hair purple and add something a bit different to my boring natural colour!

52 Week Challenge: Fashion

Week 29 is here and the theme was to do nails inspired by fashion. I don't know the first thing about what is in fashion currently and what isn't so first thing I did was some research in to that! One of the reoccurring things which came up was tribal patterns so firstly I tried this;

Which totally didn't work. So I tried again, worked a bit better but I am still not happy with it.

Can you even see the tribal pattern?

Hair: Voluminous Side Bun

After using the full range of John Frieda: Full Repair for around a month I think its time to share my views. I will do proper individual reviews but this is an overall look at the range.

I needed a hair style which would allow the products to work to their best advantage which was where the following video came in very useful! I actually wanted to try out the side swept bun but first I needed to prepare my hair the way instructed here. I naturally have almost straight hair, it is long and quite thick which means it is hard to get any root lift and volume in to it.

So to start off I shampooed and conditioned my hair, left it to air dry for a hour before using the Style Creator Heat Activated Styling Spray. The spray was really nice and gave a good spray action, not one of those awful ones which spat out the liquid. Those ones are so frustrating, you can't even comment on the product and its usefulness!

Once I had brushed that through with my Tangle Teezer I put a part in my hair and then used the Protecting Root Lift Foam at the front of my hairline and over the part. The foam action bottle was different from what I expected because it was more of a pump action rather than a hair mousse which is what I was expecting. After massaging it in my hair and fingers felt a bit sticky, but I went with it.

The next step was to rough blow dry your hair, trying to get some boost to the roots. I used the same technique demonstrated in the video around the hairline which gave me about an inch of volume which completely surprised me. I think this was down to the foam, which once blow dried didn't leave my hair with that sticky feeling which I was expecting.

[at this point I really should have put some make up on! To spare your eyes I've hidden it!]

Then using a curling tong I added a little texture to the hair, I don't have a thick wand so just ran my fingers through the hair to break down the structured curls from the 1 inch curling wand I do have. Really like this look, my hair being so naturally straight it has always been difficult to get any texture in to it. Admittedly this isn't as voluminous as the model in the video, but I am still impressed.

Finally I used the Perfect Ends Deep Infusion, to add a little bit of definition and so help those fly aways which I always seem to get! I quite like this product but not really for adding definition to the ends this way.

This side swept bun didn't work exactly on my hair, as I have too much! I ended up using twist in screws to hold my hair in place. Really liked this look, very similar to the style I wore for my wedding.

So much easier than I thought! If you are still reading by this point, well done!
What do you think? Have you tried any of these products?

Swatch: Claire's Iridescent

I couldn't find anywhere which gave this polish a name or a number which is quite annoying.
So I have named it Iridescent!

This is two coats of iridescent on top of one coat of ELF's Black polish. As you would expect this polish is a pain to photograph but to the eye it is really beautiful. The reason I chose a slightly blurry photo is so you can see the effect it gives, looks a little like the night sky here.

Review: ELF Cream Eyeliner - Gunmetal

ELF say: "Creates smooth lines that are defined and precise. Smudge-proof, budge-proof and water-resistant coverage for all day wear to combat against, sweat, tears and rain!"

I say: I have to agree with the claims which ELF make. Once it has set which doesn't take long at all it is pretty much there all day. I do use a eyelid primer though as it will help you get the most out of your eyeliner, plus it stops the awful lid transfer.

I would repurchase and recommend this. The brush is a nice little addition which I seem to have lost for the photos, surprisingly enough it is usable. The colour of liner is a metallic shimmer silver colour. Nice and creamy texture, more solid than a gel which doesn't drag your skin at all. Remember to screw the lid back on tightly and to store the pot upside down to prolong the life of the product.

+ Long lasting, I have owned a little pot for almost two years and its still lasting
+ Gunmetal has a gorgeous silver shimmer to it
+ Suitable for contact wearers
+ Nice alternative to black

- Not very good on the waterline
- Pigmentation is good but you will need to go over twice for opaque coverage

Swatch: ELF - Twinkle

This polish had been on my lust list for a while, and then ended in my to review pile! It's quite difficult to describe so have been putting it off.

Finish: Fine glitter, in a clear base. Blue, silver, greens almost holographic looking
Opacity: A topcoat which one coat is enough
Lasting Powder: Unsure
Brush Type: Standard
How much: 10ml
Repurchase? Yes, but this will last me a good while.

Twinkle is swatched here over ELF's Teal. Did a spot of stamping to freshen this up, looked quite twinkly to the eye

Hopefully this quick video helped to show the twinkle factor which the photos struggled to show

Review: Soap and Glory - Sexy Mother Pucker

Soap and Glory say:

Fasten your seatbelts! It's Super-Colour™ Sexy Mother Pucker™ with SUPERFILL™ Lip Plumping Spheres and LIPSWELL™ Volume Boost Technology.

Extreme formula lip plumping gloss, with scientifically-proven plumping microspheres that explode in volume up to 10x when they come in contact with water.

I got this lipgloss for christmas so think I have had  enough time to try it out and see what I think. This is beginning to get a bit of a cult following, now there are a couple of new shades / flavours out in case you like the plumping effect but not the shade.

Stickiness Factor: Quite sticky, hair attached to lips is very likely when using!
Applicator Type: Doe foot
Scent: Vanilla with a hint of red berry
Colour: Sheer light pink shimmer
Plumping Effect: Plumping microsheres? Exploding! Sounds scary! Basically it agrivated the lips it to swelling and giving a plumper effect.
Now on to the photo's which say so much more than the rambles of myself!

Product Free Lips
After Application
 After Ten Minutes

So clearly the effect isn't instant but there is a plumping effect there which lasts around 30-45mins. Pain factor, to me it feels quite cold and a little tingly rather than painful. While I wouldn't repurchase this shade I would be interested in swatching some of the newer shades.
