Review: Elemis - Fresh Skin Face Mask Duo

In the box there are three deep clean purifying face masks and three quenching face masks. I struggled to open the sachets with my hands even when they weren't wet, so I would recommending using scissors.

As a quick preface to the review I am in my late 20's so almost at the top end of the recommended age for this particular range from Elemis. However my skin is combination to oily and prone to hormonal acne, my skin in my teens was awful. Bad acne and very oily skin, so while my skin may not be normal there is hope out there for anyone suffering at the moment.

"This rebalancing facial mask from the Freshskin by Elemis range designed especially for younger skin has a blend of natural clays, goji berry extract and frankincense oil to help draw out impurities and refine the skin whilst vitamin E softens and soothes" - Elemis

I was having a total bad skin few days and thought that would be a fabulous time to try to this one out.The mask itself was a thick clay like substance which I liked as they are so good for drawing out impurities. The scent was quite herbal. I sometimes get cystic acne spots which never come to the surface but are unsightly and painful and I found this mask as well as other clay based ones really do help to get the spot to the surface and out so my skin can heal quickly.

After putting the mask on it seemed to have set and gone hard within ten minutes and then I washed it off. I found it helped to get the spot to the surface of my skin and that really helped the length of the spots life quicken (TMI?). I also found it helped my skin to feel soft and smooth, certainly not dried or tight which is a rarity with a mask as usually my face is crying out for moisturiser afterwards.

I really liked this mask and while I wouldn't use it every week I really could see myself using this once a month to help my skin. I would recommend this to anyone with acne prone or even just spotty teenage skin. Gender neutral to I imagine males could use this without feeling emasculated.

"This super softening face mask contains white lupin, artic cranberry seed oil and apple extract to deliver an instant moisture boost to dry skin, while aloe vera gently soothes. Leaves skin radiant and exceptionally soft" - Elemis

My face wasn't feeling particularly dry and to be fair it very rarely does. This mask was thick and cream like, it didn't set or harden on the face. I sat with this on for over 15 minutes and it stayed the same consistency on the skin.

review-elemis-fresh-skin-face-mask-duo-magical-quenchingThe scent was fresh but other than that I couldn't pin point any other scents in the mask. I found it quite difficult to remove with just water, next time I will remember this and remove it with a flannel or facial sponge.

I applied this after cleansing with my TréSonic, after using that my skin does usually need a moisturiser. Once removed I found it left my skin quite soft and while I could have done with a light moisturiser but I actually forgot to apply one and didn't have any problems with that.

For this mask I don't think that it really was aimed at my skin type where as the clay mask was better for my skin. If you have dry skin or combination to dry then this really could be a great mask for you.

Overall for me it seems a little bit odd to have these two masks in a duo pack, one seems to be aimed at one skin type and the other for a different one. Perhaps if these were a try me pack and then once you decided which mask you enjoyed the most you could purchase the one type.

I wouldn't buy these myself, (I won them in a competition) because it seems wasteful when I only really see the benefits of one of the two masks. These are quite pricey too (£2.50 per sachet) and I saw the same benefits from the Montagne Jeunesse Blemish Mud which was a lot cheaper, and as the target market of this duo is teenagers and early 20's perhaps a price point of £15 for six masks is a little too high even for a luxury product.
