Nail Polish Battle 2019: Winner!

So the time has finally arrived for me to choose my favourite nail polish from the ones I got during 2019.

We left off with my top three;

Essie - Angora Cardi | Rimmel - Blue Sea Star | A England - Goth

First I cut Angora Cardi from the three, because pink is my least favourite of the three colours.

Finally I cut Blue Sea Star from the two because while it is unique to my collection, it is a cream finish and I prefer holographic. Which of course leaves Goth as my winner for 2019;

A England have won my nail polish battle now for three years running. Goth is a beautiful deep aubergine, holographic polish. The formula is opaque in one coat and the brush is flat, wide and rounded at the cuticle which is my favourite type. The shade is deep but it still is noticeably not black.

Nail Polish Battle 2019: Top Three

For today's nail polish battle I am showing all the winners from each round, and choosing the top three for 2019. Had I of looked at all of the polishes I had got during 2019 I really don't think choosing that way I would have ended up with these particular polishes. That said doing these polish battles is interesting and a fun way to overview my new polishes.

Barry M - Butterscotch | OPI - I Pull The Strings | Essie - Angora Cardi | Barry M - Blueberry Muffin | Rimmel - Blue Sea Star | Superchic Lacquer - Zombie Crush | A England - Goth

So from the seven I ended up with these three;

Essie - Angora Cardi | Rimmel - Blue Sea Star | A England - Goth

Angora Cardi is in the top three, it's a dusty, muted pink shade which for me is more wearable than the other pink polishes. It is something I seem to reach for more in autumn.

Rimmel - Blue Sea Star, made it in to the top three for similar reasons as Angora Cardi. A muted, dusty polish shade which is unique to my collection.

And finally making it in to the top three is A England - Goth. I really like the formula, the brush is flat, wide and rounded at cuticle. It is holographic and is dark aubergine but is still distinguishable from a standard black polish.

The winning polish of 2019 will be the next and final post in this series.

Nail Polish Battle 2019: Glitter and Metallic

Seeing as there were only four in this particular category it was easy to get rid of one, that was throwing shapes which was a silver but with a golden shimmer throughout it.

Always On Top is a topper, glass flecked finish. It is a nice polish but for me it was a bit too light. Sound of Sequins is a standard metallic silver polish, it isn't unique to my collection which is why I Pull The Strings won. It is a rose gold chunky and micro glitter in a clear base. Surprised myself at liking something rose gold.

Nail Polish Battle 2019: Blue

Cutting one from the four wasn't too difficult, Lady of Shallot and Blackjack were quite similar but the A England has a slight purple shift as well as navy.

Rimmel - Blue Sea Star | OPI - Less is Norse | A England - Lady of Shalott

Less is Norse is a dusty cornflower blue which is nice, but the winner for me is Blue Sea Star. It is unique to my collection, its a mid toned blue, vibrant and yet somehow not in your face.

Nail Polish Battle 2019: Purple

Purple polishes seem to be a weakness of mine, have 12 polishes in this category;

OPI - Do You Lilac It? | A England - The Scent of Azaleas | A England - Angel Grace | A England - Mrs De Winter | OPI - Krona-logical Order | Superchic Lacquer - Zombie Crush | OPI - Ginger's Revenge | Primark - Wine | OPI - In The Cable Car Pool Lane | Dystopia Nail Polish - Midnight's Mirror | Nails Inc - Drty Girl | OPI - Lincoln Park After Dark

Of the 12 purple polishes it was a little bit hard to select my top three. I went for Wine which is a gel effect polish from Primark. It has a nice flat and wide brush and the colour is really perfect for autumn. The only issue I had with this one was it did stain my cuticles a bit. Second of the top three is Dystopia Midnight's Mirror, which was the last polish I got this year. This polish is a stunning duochrome that shifts from blue to purple.

Which means that Zombie Crush is the winner of this round, it was so hard to choose between this one and Midnight's Mirror. Zombie Crush is a dark purple polish with so much holographic pieces in there, the rainbow is very obvious with this one even when not in direct sunlight.

Nail Polish Battle 2019: Green and Blue

Today we are going over the green and blue polishes I have amassed this year;

Barry M - Blueberry Muffin | OPI - Is That a Spear in Your Pocket? | A England - Manderley | OPI - Suzi The First Lady of Nails | Born Pretty Store - Myriad Star | Nicole Diary - ND01 | Born Pretty Store - Altair and Vega | Danglefoot Polish - Let The Wild Rumpus Begin

So there were eight polishes in this category, I really like the finished look I get from Nicole Diary - ND01, it is duochrome with scattered holographic pieces making it look almost cosmic. My only issue is you have to layer it over a black base polish. Another I liked a lot was Let The Wild Rumpus Begin, it is a deep navy / charcoal with multicolour holographic pieces.

That said I surprisingly for me went for the lightest of the three as the winner Blueberry Muffin. I am a big fan of the gelly range from Barry M in general and this has only increased with the change to the brush type, now it is flat, wide and rounded at the cuticle. This shade is something quite different in my collection, it is a teal / aqua cream. I would say that the shade is very hard to get a colour accurate photo of, it is more like the swatch picture than the bottle shot.

Nail Polish Battle 2019: Pink and Red

Nails Inc - Make an Understatement | Nails Inc - Saturday Night In | Nails Inc - Bruton Street | Barry M - Pink Grapefruit | Essie - Angora Cardi | OPI - Red | OPI - Toying With Trouble | Nails Inc - Cambridge Mews | A England - Shall Be My Queen | OPI - Berry Fairy Fun

As pink isn't my favourite colour breaking down this category to my top three was quite easy. Cambridge Mews is a raspberry pink, as with the newer Nails Inc polishes it has a nice flat and wide brush which I like. Shall Be My Queen is a mid toned red which is also holographic which would look a lot better in direct sunlight which at this time of year in the north it is harder to come by!

Which means that Angora Cardi is the winner, it is a dusty, muted pink shade which for me is more wearable than the other pink polishes. The colour is more accurate in the swatch below than the bottle shot. I think Shall Be My Queen could have won if there were more sun around to bring out the holographic pieces.
