Nail Polish Battle 2017: Winner!

So we left off on the top three polishes of 2017 and today I find out which is the winner.

Holographic Lights // Spirit of the Moors // In Robe and Crown

Firstly is Holographic Lights, which was the first nail polish in sometime from the high street which made me excited for polish again. Not since the days of GOSH and the original Holographic has there been a polish this spectacular so easily available. That said it is too bright to win this particular challenge.

In second place is Spirit of the Moors, a bright blue holographic finish polish. Really vivid and something I always get comments on whenever I wear it. While I have darker blue holographic polishes and lighter ones also this is definitely a stand out. Bright and vivid and stunning, but for me this is too bright to win, I am drawn to darker things.

And so the winner has to be In Robe and Crown, which is the darkest of the three polishes in the top three. It is described as a "dark lavish red garnet resplendent in its prismatic hologram light". It is a deep purple with aubergine and garnet in there, along with the stunning formula and holographic finish you get with A England polishes. This is a polish I would wear as is without adding extra too which is rare for me to do. I love this polish!

Nail Polish Battle 2017: Top Three

Having now gone through all of the various categories this post is pulling together all of those winners and then working out what are the top three polishes I have acquired in 2017.

Barry M - Cotton // Barry M - Holographic Lights // A England - Rose Bower // A England - Spirit of the Moors // Barry M - Copper Dreams // A England - In Robe and Crown

Cotton is a great staple white, however useful it may be in my collection it isn't going to win this battle, it just isn't exciting enough.

Rose Bower, is a stunning vivid pink polish, I don't usually like pink polishes but this one is pretty special. Not special enough to win though, because it is ultimately still a pink.

Copper Dreams, a great autumnal duochrome but for me it isn't that extra bit special enough to make it to the top three.

And so the top three of 2017 are;

Holographic Lights // Spirit of the Moors // In Robe and Crown

One last post to come to find out what my top nail polish of 2017 is.

Nail Polish Battle 2017: Black and Silver

Seeing as it is almost the end of 2017 it is time for my annual nail polish battle. Always interesting to look back over the year at the new polishes I have gotten and seeing which ones are my favourites.

So since last years nail polish battle I have 53 new nail polishes and today I am looking at black and silver ones of which we are starting with 10.

Barry M - Holographic Lights // Barry M - Icicle // A England - The Beggar Maid // A England - Heathcliff // A England - King Cophetua // A England - Incense Burner // A England - Nocturne // Barry M - Black Pistachio // Barry M - Black // Barry M - Black Forest

Firstly I began by selecting my top three;

Barry M - Holographic Lights // A England - Nocturne // Barry M - Black Forest

A England Nocturne is a gorgeous black polish with a holographic scattering in it.

Barry M Black Forest is a really good formula, opaque in almost one coat and a easy to use brush.

The winner of this round however is Holographic Lights, this is a great silver holographic polish. Something new and a bit different for the high street / drug store, and under £5.

Swatch: Barry M - Holographic Lights (Molten Metal)

Swatch-Barry-M-Holographic-Lights-Molten-Metal

Colour: Silver
Finish: Holographic
Opacity: Three Coats
Brush Type: Flat, Wide, Rounded Cuticle
How Much? 10ml

I have a few holographic polishes in my collection and compared Holographic Lights to those;

A England - Encore Margot
[With Flash]
Encore Margot is a beautiful polish, however not as holographic as the Barry M.

GOSH - Holographic (original)
[With Flash]
GOSH Holographic is stunning, even in standard lighting. This is the elusive original swatched, I did do a comparison post to the newer formula but I think even that one has been discontinued.

HITS - Hefesto
[With Flash]
Hefesto is more of a top coat which you would apply over any base colour to turn it holographic.

Nails: Top 5 Spring Polishes 2017

Barry M - Cotton // Barry M - Holographic Lights // Avon - Lilac Love // Nails Inc - Star Street // Barry M - Dragon Fruit

Spring actually began a few weeks ago so I am a little late in doing this post, but after missing last year I thought it would still be good to share my picks for 2017. You can see my picks from 2013 here, 2014 here and 2015 here. Of course you don't need these specific brands and colours but something along these lines are very Spring appropriate, if that is what you are looking for.
