Topic Tuesday: Favourite Summer Polishes

Earlier this year I posted about this years top five summer nail polishes, I think anything holographic is good in the summer because when the sunlight hits it the polish comes to life. Also any photochromatic polishes are ideal for the summer because of the extra hours of daylight.

Nails: Top 5 Summer Polishes 2021

Summer Solstice will be next Monday and so I should get around to sharing my top summer polishes for 2021. These are the polishes from my collection I will be reaching for more often.

If you are interested you can see my summer picks for 2020 here2019 here2018 here2017 here2015 here and 2014 here.

Barry M - Pineapple Punch // Dystopia - Couldn't Miss This One This Year // Orly - Synthetic Symphony // Polish Me Silly - Glow Girl // AJ Nails - Peacock

Barry M Pineapple Punch this polish was released earlier this year and its very bright yellow, clearly not neon but bright enough.

Dystopia Couldn't Miss This One This Year is a photochromatic polish which means in sunlight it changes colour. Great for summer as there isn't much sunlight here the rest of the year.

Orly Synthetic Symphony is a bright purple polish, quite bold and very difficult to photograph.

Polish Me Silly Glow Girl a flakie topper, I like it over black as it shows off the blue, purple, pink colour shift.

AJ Nails Peacock is very much a neon green, one that is opaque in two coats and no white base coat required.

Nail Polish Battle 2020: Glitter and Flakies

NeVerMind - Slendy // Painted Polish - Blue Jean Baby // Dystopia - Couldn't Miss This One This Year // OPI - Let's Celebrate // OPI - Born to Sparkle // Fancy Gloss - Magma // Femme Fatale - Weird Sisters

I found coming up with my top three difficult, which is surprising given I don't like glitter. Slendy is particularly unique to my collection and I was surprised by how much I liked it. The following made it in to the top three.

Weird Sister is quite a unique polish, a thermal that goes from black to clear with added glitters. I haven't owned a thermal that goes clear prior to this.

In second place, Couldn't Miss This One This Year which again is a very unique polish to me. Everyone has heard of thermal changing polishes whereas this one actually changes colour in direct sunlight. Blue to purple colour change packed with flakies.

Which means the winner is Magma, which is a flakie topper. The colour shifts in this duochrome is stunning, all of the autumnal colours in a polish. Also it looks great with a matte topcoat.

Nails: Top 5 Autumn / Fall Polishes 2020

As autumn arrived yesterday I thought I would share my top five autumn / fall nail polishes.
I have done similar posts in 201920182017201620152014, and 2013.

Dystopia Midnight's Mirror is a duochrome darker polish, going between a navy and a purple, duochrome's are hard to photograph but they do look stunning on the nails and this being darker makes it lovely for the autumn.

A England Maxim is a muted red shade, not something bright but fits in with the colour scheme of autumn leaves. The fact that Maxim is a holographic adds something extra to it, which I like.

Fancy Gloss Magma is new to my collection, it is a duochrome flakie topper polish. I have worn it over black in the photo below. It again fits in with the colour scheme of autumn, russet, yellow shades. Given this is a topper you could wear it over any of the other polishes I have posted about here.

OPI My Italian is a Little Rusty is the newest polish to my collection, it is a deep terracotta shade. Reminds me of something typical in the 1970's, not something I would tend to reach for year round but I didn't have one this particular shade and thought it would be ideal for autumn.

Barry M Spearmint could be a winter polish but I have been reaching for it more often in autumn. It is more of a muted cream polish which would make a nice base for some seasonal stamping, or with Fancy Gloss Magma over top.

Topic Tuesday: Oldest Untried

My oldest untried polish is from around the beginning of December last year.

Dystopia Nail Polish - Couldn't Miss This One This Year

The reason why it is still untried is because it is a photo-chromatic polish, and while I have technically worn it, it was so overcast that I wasn't able to see any colour shift. It will stay in my untried pile until the sun finally returns to the North of England!
