Nail Polish Battle 2020: Winner!

Finally I am reaching the end of the 2020 battle!

The last round we ended up with the top three polishes, Jinx, Magma and Eclipse;

For me the first polish to eliminate was Jinx, it is a stunning polish, strong holographic silver.

Choosing between the top two polishes was very difficult! In the end coming in at number two was Magma, I like all of the different autumnal colours the flakies show. Only came second because it is a topper rather than a polish you can wear as is.

 

Which means that the winner of 2020 nail polish battle is ILNP Eclipse. I think it was the first of a kind with its multichrome deep red pigment. It is incredibly distracting when wearing it as it changes colours in different lights, and different finger positions. 2020 was a year that called for distraction and that is why Eclipse won.

 

 

  

Nail Polish Battle 2020: Top 3

Having completed all of the seven colour categories the following polishes won each round;

Harder to chose my top three as they were all already up there in favourite tier. Jinx is a very holographic silver polish and the other two are both darker shifty duochromes.

Nail Polish Battle 2020: Blue

Barry M - Berry Sorbet // Essie - Mint Candy Apple // Barry M - Sour Candy // Barry M - Ocean Blue // Rimmel - Danny Boy Blue // A England - Skinhead // Tonic - Dragons at Dusk // Danglefoot - The First Avenger // Nail Artisan - Witching Hour

Danny Boy Blue is a true colbalt blue, quite vivid similar to the original Sally Hansen Pacific Blue or Nails Inc Baker Street. No mistaking this for black or even a white, certainly a blue.

Dragons at Dusk is a beautiful duochrome polish, changing from blue to purple, there is also some teal in there too which is nice.

Which means the winner is The First Avenger which is a beautiful metallic primarily blue but a duochrome changing to purple on different angles.

I appear to have a thing for purple polishes having 19 new ones in 2020!

Danglefoot - Across the Universe // OPI - Suzi and the Artic Fox // Tonic - Peacock Parade // Tonic - Pegasus Parade // Tonic - Pixie Parade // OPI - Turn on the Northern Lights // Tonic - The Answer is 42 // A England - Lenore // ILNP - Eclipse

This particular battle was difficult to whittle it down to my top three as there are so many beautiful polishes.

Pegasus Parade which is a purple blue duochrome polish, quite shifty and difficult to photograph! There is also some maroon in there too depending on the light and angle.

The Answer is 42 is a duochrome purple blue polish which I struggle to photo, it also has flakies and scattered holographic pieces.

Which means that Eclipse is the winner, this is such a shifty multichrome it was hard to know what colour category to go in. Looks black straight on, changing to red, orange, yellow, beautiful.

  

Nail Polish Battle 2020: Orange

Barry M - Mandarin // Barry M - Desert Orange // UberChic - If You've Got it Haunt it // OPI - My Italian is a Little Rusty

I didn't have many orange polishes, I could easily eliminate one of the Barry M's as they are dupes for one another. The shade is nice for summer but I found myself reaching for it more over Halloween month.

 

My Italian is a Little Rusty is unique to my collection, it is a deep rusty toned orange which is nice for Autumn. 

Which means the winner is If You've Got it Haunt it, a mid toned orange holographic polish. I did try and come up with my own holographic orange over Halloween but it didn't come out as good as this one.

  

Nail Polish Battle 2020: Black

Rimmel - Rita's Black // Danglefoot - Higitis Figitus // Uberchic - Say Boo and Scary On // A England - The Princes in the Tower // A England - The Raven

A difficult category for me, I think the easiest one to eliminate is Rita's Black because it isn't opaque enough in one coat.

The Raven is a very dark scattered holo polish, I didn't find it as holographic as other A England polishes but it is very dark which is what you want for a black.

Second place is Higitis Figitus, the holo is very strong in this one but because it has more pigment in it the darkness of it is lessened.

Which means the winner is Say Boo and Scary On, a very dark navy holographic polish.

  

Nail Polish Battle 2020: Glitter and Flakies

NeVerMind - Slendy // Painted Polish - Blue Jean Baby // Dystopia - Couldn't Miss This One This Year // OPI - Let's Celebrate // OPI - Born to Sparkle // Fancy Gloss - Magma // Femme Fatale - Weird Sisters

I found coming up with my top three difficult, which is surprising given I don't like glitter. Slendy is particularly unique to my collection and I was surprised by how much I liked it. The following made it in to the top three.

Weird Sister is quite a unique polish, a thermal that goes from black to clear with added glitters. I haven't owned a thermal that goes clear prior to this.

  

In second place, Couldn't Miss This One This Year which again is a very unique polish to me. Everyone has heard of thermal changing polishes whereas this one actually changes colour in direct sunlight. Blue to purple colour change packed with flakies.

 

Which means the winner is Magma, which is a flakie topper. The colour shifts in this duochrome is stunning, all of the autumnal colours in a polish. Also it looks great with a matte topcoat.
