Nails: #EDAW2015 - Sock It

23rd February - 1st March 2015 is Eating Disorder Awareness Week, a chance to raise awareness and understanding. Sock It is a fundraising event, wear funny socks and donate £1 to BEAT. As I am more about nails than actual socks, I thought I would wear socks on my nails for today's event.

Nails: World Mental Health Day 2014 - Schizophrenia Awareness

Today is World Mental Health Day, and this year the focus is on Schizophrenia. From what I gather last year the idea was you wear purple for awareness, and the awareness ribbon colour is grey.

Nailsandpolkadots on Instagram - "The passing of Robin Williams has again shown that there is more to a person than meets the eye. Having suffered from depression myself me and a few friends have decided to collaborate to raise awareness for the invisible illness. Join us this Sunday by posting a green manicure using the hashtag #fightforlightandlive. Feel free to repost this picture to get as many people involved as possible".

These are my green nails for this cause, raising awareness and showing solidarity.

Nails: PCOS Awareness Month

This set of nails have been done as September is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Awareness Month. I have people close to me who do suffer from this, and raising awareness is always important. For example, most people know October is breast cancer awareness month, where as not many people know about PCOS Month or indeed the syndrome itself. I did some awareness nail art last year, which you can see here if you want.

Eradicate Hate Purple Nails - NO H8

Bullying is not funny. It is not cool. It is not right. And more importantly, it is not okay.

Most of us are, thankfully, residents of countries that support tolerance and many of our families have settled in these places simply for that reason. Generations later, it is our responsibility to perpetuate that message of tolerance across our new social platforms, including the internet.

As members of the nail polish blogging community, we all share a love of beauty, color, and lacquer. Other than that, we are remarkably different: from our race to our religion to our hair color...even to our polish application techniques. To marginalize anyone because of those differences is completely unacceptable and today I take a stand against that. I refuse to allow other people's view of "normal" dictate how I behave, believe, and blog.

In solidarity with a multitude of bloggers linked below, my purple manicure represents my proud commitment to the No H8 movement. Today, November 8, I dedicate my post to ending bullying of any kind and to encouraging diversity and imperfection among our colorful community.

There is more to life than messy cuticles. Raise awareness for cancer, for mental illness and male cancers. Do something positive not negative.

Don't bully others, it affects them more than you will ever be able to comprehend.

Nails: World Hospice and Palliative Care Day

This Hospice Care Week, local hospices are asking people to declare: 'I am hospice care'.

"Hospice care is not about buildings. It is about people and communities – from the people who support and work in partnership with their local hospices, to the patients, friends and families who rely on them. Together, we are all hospice care. Whether you have a connection to your local hospice or not, pledge your support during Hospice Care Week and tell the world that ‘I am hospice care’"BeSuprised.com

As for the actual nails which I have worn for the photo I have used OPI - William Tell Me About OPI to stamp the awareness ribbons on the ring finger as burgundy is the appropriate coloured ribbon for this.

52 Week Challenge: Black

October is Depression Awareness month, in America. The UK doesn't have an awareness month, just a single week which was April 17–24. Raising awareness is never a bad thing.

The nails which I have done are supposed to represent the darkness of depression, black, dark, messy, imperfect. Foggy, unclear thinking. The matte finish because there is nothing shiny to be found. Imprinted with a fingerprint as it can be hard to know who you are under all the black fog.

"At least one person in every six  becomes depressed in the course of their lives. One in 20 is clinically depressed. Figures suggest that it is women more than men who become depressed, but men may find it harder to admit to or talk about their experience. All age groups can be affected, and it’s important to take symptoms seriously and not to dismiss them as an inevitable part of growing up or growing old. By recognising and treating the symptoms and getting help, it’s possible to overcome depression, and prevent it coming back"

Stamping on Sunday: PCOS Awareness Month

This week's Stamping on Sunday challenge is something you have learned from the group. For me I learned how to do a whole nail plate stamp. I had already mastered the single image stamp but the whole nail was a challenge!

Stamping Plate:  BM321

This set of nails was done as September is Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Awareness Month. Most people know pink breast cancer awareness month is October, where as not many people know about PCOS month or indeed the syndrome itself.

Did you know it was PCOS Awareness Month? I didn't until I read a blog post from Miss Green Eyes.
