Nerd Nail Challenge: Star Trek

Only a couple of more challenges left for the nail nerd challenge and I am yet to have seen any of these shows. Today is no different, the prompt is Star Trek and I haven't seen that either.

31 Day Challenge: New Technique

This is a new technique to me, it was done using a fan brush. A little bit messy but it seemed to blend the three colours quite well. I am sure with practice this could look so much better.

Base Polish: Sally Hansen - Dorien Grey
Rainbow Polishes: Eyeko - Saucy Polish, ELF - Fire Coral, Collection 2000 - Sherbet Lemon

Battle of Nail Polish 2012: Top Three!

So we've had all of the battles and now it is time to whittle the best of each round down to the top three nail polishes of 2012!

3) Eyeko - Vampira ~ This is another blackened polish, this time it is a deep dark red glitter. It is quite delicate which is odd coming from such a dark polish. Unfortunately since Eyeko's revamp they have stopped doing nail polish, although I think China Glaze does a similar polish, that is called Lubu Heels.

2) A England - Lady of the Lake ~ Quite surprised that this was the only holographic polish making it in to the top three polishes. This is a dusky purple polish with a really beautiful holograph running through it. Admittedly living in the north of England limits the amount of day light I have and that means less sunlight which makes the polish 70% as amazing as it always is in direct sunlight.

1) Revlon - Facets of Fuchsia  ~ I adore this polish, wore it for my wedding and it is after all a blackened purple. Lot's of depth to the polish, chunky hex shaped glitter too. What more could I want from a polish.

Nail Polish: Battle of the Pastels

Collection 2000 - French Tip White, W7 - Polar White, Barry M - Matte White, Sally Hansen - Lavender Cloud, Revlon - Cloud, W7 - Sheer Lemon, Angels Delight, Sally Hansen - First Kiss, ELF - Innocent, Eyeko - Rain, Eyeko - Vintage, ELF - Mint, ELF - Lilac, Sally Hansen - Delphinium

So first round we have to get 14 polishes down to just four. Me being me I don't particularly have a preference for light polishes! I adore Sally Hansen's Lavender Cloud, it is opaque in two coats and is perfect for those winter nail designs.

However I seem over the past year to have used an awful lot of ELF's Innocent and that is why it is making it through to the next round.

The winner of the battle is Barry M's Matte White, and while I have used a lot of Innocent Matte White wins (just) because it is good for stamping as well as a base for nail designs!

Nail Polish: Battle of the Reds

Another day, another battle! This time it is red polishes.

Eyeko - Saucy, ELF - Light Red, Miss Sporty - 160, ELF - Medium Red, ELF - Cranberry, Barry M - Raspberry, Kleancolor - Metallic Red, ELF - Red Velvet, Sleek - Royalty  ELF - Dark Red, OPI - Sanguine, No.7 - Damson Dreams,  Eyeko - Vampira, OPI - William Tell Me About OPI

First off the top four are such a wide range of shades, which will make the next battle really difficult! ELF - Light Red is a prime colour, so simple. Barry M - Raspberry is a really lovely colour difficult to know where to place it red or a pink?

Barry M Raspberry and Eyeko Vampira made it through the round. Vampira is a very blackened red with red glitter throughout the polish.

I could have easily brought both in to the final but alas Eyeko Vampira made it on its own, purely because its a blackened polish and I have a leaning towards darker shades.

Nail Polish: Battle of the Blues

Battle of the blues, so many blues to choose from!

Barry M - Blueberry Ice Cream, Collection 2000 - Electric Dreams, Essence - Let's Get Lost, MUA - Smurf Blue, Barry M - Chameleon Blue, Stargazer - Blue Chrome, Miss Sporty - Pop Fiction, Models Own - True Blue, Barry M - Retro Blue, Barry M - Blue Plum Gelly, Max Factor - Odyssey  Kleancolor - Metallic Blue, Sleek - Oxford, Sinful Colors - Hot Spot, OPI - Road House Blues, Eyeko - Cosmic, No.7 - Betty Blues, ELF - Navy, MUA - Navy

Cutting down all of those polishes to just four wasn't too difficult, Barry M - Blueberry Ice Cream is such a nice cream base polish perfect for nail art. Miss Sporty - Pop Fiction is quite a unique periwinkle blue, shame it smells really weird.

Making the final two are Barry M and OPI. The Blue Plum is just so rich of a colour and covers in just one coat.

And the winner is... Road House Blues! It's just more of a colder navy compared to the Barry M. Something very wearable, plenty of polish in there (15ml) and the brush makes application so easy.

Halloween Nail Challenge: Blood Splatter

Blood splatter / gore was the challenge over on Nail Tart's today. I did hope this would have turned out better, I ended up having to tweek the colours to get the blood looking more blood like rather than jam.

Bloody enough?
Base Polish: Sally Hansen - Lavender Cloud
Stamping Polish: Eyeko - Saucy
Stamping Plates: Bundle Monster 202 + 301

I also used some fake blood

Tutorial: Great British Flag

This tutorial is quite rushed as I am in a hurry to get this post out there before the Jubilee weekend.

1) After using a base coat paint all nails in a blue polish, I used Models Own - True Blue

2) Try and paint a cross on top of the blue using a white polish, I used Barry M's - Matte White

3) Using the same polish drag some diagonal lines in the gaps of the previous cross

4) Most complicated part, paint a fine line down the diagonal cross lines. I used Eyeko - Saucy

5) With the same polish paint another cross over the larger one in the middle. Once that is dried paint on a top coat to help smooth out the polish from being a little bumpy. Tidy up any mishaps and you are done!
